Create
Start from a lesson or a student
Choose Lesson for general class material, or choose Student to match material to one student's phonics profile.
Create from a lesson
Use this option when you are preparing for a class, a small group, or a lesson you will teach later.
- Open Home from the left menu.
- Select Lesson near the top of the page.
- Choose a Curriculum.
- Choose the Lesson you are teaching.
- Select the material you want to make.
The material uses the patterns assigned to that place in the curriculum. It is not connected to one student’s profile.
In short: choose Lesson when the teaching sequence should guide the material.
Create for a student
Use this option when the material is for one reader.
- Open Home from the left menu.
- Select Student near the top of the page.
- Choose the student’s name.
- Check the curriculum and lesson shown for that student.
- Select an available material.
Cody uses the student’s profile, including patterns marked Known, Target, and Unknown. Two students at the same lesson can receive different material if their pattern profiles are different.
In short: choose Student when one reader’s profile should guide the material.
If the material tiles are gray
The tiles stay gray until you select a lesson or student. Cody needs that choice before it knows which phonics patterns to use.
If only one or two tiles remain unavailable after your selection, that may also be normal. Some material types depend on your plan, and some work only in Lesson mode. Point to a tile to read its message.
Find recent work
Look below the material tiles for Pick up where you left off. This section shows work you opened recently.
Select an item to open it again. Select View materials to search and filter everything you have made.
Before you leave Home
Selecting the logo in the top-left corner returns you to a fresh Home page. It also clears anything still open on the create page. Finish or download that work before selecting the logo.
