What Cody Reading does

The short version

• Make phonics practice. Choose a lesson or a student, then create a story, word list, worksheet, or game.
• Match practice to the reader. A student’s profile marks patterns as Known, Target, or Unknown. Cody uses those choices when it creates their material.
• Check the result before using it. In a story, Cody highlights focus words and words that may be too difficult, so you can review them.
• Keep teaching your own way. Cody supports your curriculum and your judgment. It does not replace either one.

The problem it solves

It can take a long time to find a useful passage for one lesson or one reader. The text may practice the right sound but include several patterns the student has not learned.

Cody Reading helps with that preparation. It creates new material around the phonics patterns you choose, so you have a better starting point for the lesson.

How it works

1. On Home, choose Lesson or Student.
2. Choose what you want to make, such as a decodable story or worksheet.
3. Cody creates a draft using the lesson or student information you selected.
4. Review the result before you print, download, or share it.

When you start with a student, Cody reads that student’s phonics profile. Each pattern is marked Known, Target, or Unknown. Updating those marks changes the information Cody uses the next time you create something.

A generated story can still contain a word outside the student’s current patterns. The story view marks those words in red for you to check.

In short: accurate lesson and student information gives Cody the best starting point, and your review gives the material its final check.

Who it’s for

Cody Reading is for classroom teachers, reading specialists, interventionists, and tutors who teach phonics in a planned order. This is often called structured literacy.

It is designed for Pre-K through Grade 5. It can also support older students who are still learning to decode words. You can use it with one student, a group, or a larger caseload.

What it does not replace

• Your curriculum. You still decide what to teach and in what order.
• Your professional judgment. Cody uses AI to create drafts. You decide whether each result is right for your student.
• Teaching or tutoring. Cody makes and organizes practice material. It is not a tutoring service.

If you do not follow one of Cody’s listed curricula, you can use Custom Pattern Selection to record the patterns you teach.
